Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Being Wife is hard!

Hi guys. I'm at a conference.

It's about sex.

Sex addiction, that is.

Anyway, it's really, really, really intense and long and it's been going on for days and I still have days to go and I'm paying a jack-load (is that even a phrase?) of money for this thing so I'm doing the noble thing and trying really, really hard to pay attention.

It's hard, people. But I'm passionate about the subject. So, it's worth it.

Anyway, because of this I'm doing the thing bloggers do when they're really, really busy but they want you to know they haven't died, and that is that I will now post one of my favorite posts from the past along with a tiny update. (This was the update. It's over now.)

Hope you enjoy! (Originally posted on 2-22-11)

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Being Wife is HARD!

I really feel bad for Wife sometimes.

Tuesday's Top Ten--Things never to say to a gay Mormon guy

Get it? Ten?

Top ten things never to say to a gay Mormon guy:

10. I have this awesome girl I want to set you up with. And you're gay, so you won't care what she looks like...

9. (If you're a guy friend): so, does you being gay mean you have a crush on me?

8. (If you're a girl friend): so, does you being gay mean you have a crush on my boyfriend/husband/brother?

7. (Any friend): so, does you being gay mean you have a crush on Ryan Gosling?

FFAQ winner + check in + random photo

Hi guys.

Yesterday's FFAQ had a very clear winner (voting closed this morning, btw. If you tried to comment and don't see it, that's why). The question that I'll be answering on Friday comes from Kaela Frame. She asks:

We all know you served a mission, but you've never really expounded on your experience living with a male companion 24/7. You once mentioned that you gained weight because you were so stressed about it. I'd just like to know a little more about your experience and where you stand when it comes to serving a mission and if it's a good choice for those with same sex attraction.

I really love this question and am excited to answer it! Thanks Kaela.

Okay, and now it's time for check in. As always, the rules:

1. Do not say "good" or "fine". The Weed
2. Check in spiritually, physically and emotionally.
3. Make a realistic and achievable goal for yourself (which you can update us on next week.)
4. No cross talk. This means that while you might be moved by someone's check-in, it is inappropriate to give feedback on what someone has shared (unless they specifically request it).
5. Remember, this is just for entertainment and is not  a supplement or replacement for therapy or other support from a mental health professional.

Aaaaand go.

Physically: I feel awesome. I've lost 5% of my bodyweight in the last little while, am back down to the 180's (again), and am going strong. I have been doing Body for Life workouts, which I enjoy. I feel healthy, stronger than ever, and like I'm going a good direction. My eating has been both simple and really effective. I feel pretty great physically at the moment.

Emotionally: Mixed bag. I feel kind of weak and even fearful at the moment in some ways, but in other ways I feel very in control and on top of things. I feel supported by good friends. I also feel sad because I'm visiting home and seeing my parents is hard with my mom's illness. (I'm not ready to talk about that yet, but I have a post mostly written about it. I'll post it when the time is right.)

Spiritually: Connected. Hopeful. Strong. Secure. Grateful.

Goal: I will have written 10,000 words in the memoir by next Saturday.

All right. Your turn. If you've never seen this before and want to see other examples, here is a good past post.

And in advance, thanks for sharing pieces of your lives with me. I really, really love getting a glimpse into your struggles and triumphs. It's very powerful. I'm grateful to you all (even those who read and don't comment much.)

Do you like that post title? It looks all technical, like I'm a scientist or something, right?. (Or like I got an IV of something called FFAQ). Really the IV means 4 because I'm about 73.4% sure this is the fourth FFAQ. (The IV is called a Roman Numeral. I know this because I'm a scientist.)

So, for those who are new 'round these parts,

I made a list! And met Benji Schwimmer! Then forgot who he was!

Okay, first of all, Hello to you if you're dropping in after watching Ricki Lake today. If you want to find my original coming out post, click here. I hear it's a pretty good read. Otherwise, dig around for a while. You're bound to find something interesting. Or not.

Second of all, guess what list I made?

Metablogging and Belief

This is a blog post about blogging. And about belief. I try not to metablog too often, but it's been on my mind a lot, so I'm gonna go for it.

First of all, what the crap am I doing over here, right? I mean, this thing started out as an ADD blog, and when that (OBVIOUSLY) didn't last long because of my raging ADD, it turned into a humor blog where I randomly told stories about colonoscopies and neighborhood cats that terrorized my children. People started following it then, and commenting with really hilarious comments. I loved it.

And then June happened...

Anna's Martin Luther King Jr. video

Last year we got snowed in over Martin Luther King Day. Anna was really intrigued by him, and so to entertain her Lolly was trying to find a short video about him online, but there wasn't really much out there for kids. Anna asked if she could make one. And Lolly said yes before she realized how much work it would be!!!

Anna was a trooper and didn't want to give up even when some of the words of her script were hard for her to say. They stayed in all day long recording and recording. And then they ended up with a really great video!

Unfortunately, not too many people online got to see it because MLK day had already passed by the time we uploaded it. But this year, we were reminded to unroll it early when we got this sweet note today from a kindergarten teacher. Here's what she said:

Wow! Thank you Miss Anna! I am a Kindergarten teacher, and we are learning about Martin Luther King Jr. this week in school. I came to youtube to search for a video that would be perfect to show my students, and I found your video! We will be watching this in our class tomorrow! You did an awesome job, and I know my students will love this and learn a lot! You may be the next Katie Couric!

What a nice comment! Now Anna has accomplished her goal: when someone is looking for a video about Martin Luther King Jr. for kids, there is one to be seen. All her hard work has paid off!

Betchya wanna see the video now, don't you? Well you're in luck!

There. Now you know all about a great man. And you've helped Anna's goal of having her video be seen by many people be accomplished. So thank you.

The Weeds wish you a happy MLK day (next week*)!

*We don't get our Christmas card out in time for Christmas, but we sure are prompt with our MLK Day greetings!

Weed Abbey

Lolly and I started watching Downton Abbey the other day (because we ran out of our current fave, The Good Wife). After several episodes, the following conversation ensued:

Lolly: I'm pretty sure you should have been a Lord.

Me: Why? Because I'm so noble?

Lolly: No, because you'd live in a house where everything was taken care of, and you'd have someone there to dress you and feed you and take care of all of the details that you normally neglect anyway, and it wouldn't even be a problem because it would be your job to only focus on the important things.

Me: Like Words with Friends. As well as Gems with Friends.

Lolly: Like writing. And counseling. And ministering.

Me: Oh yes, right. And those things. *cough* Yeah. I could get used to that, methinks.

Lolly: Ooooh, "methinks" huh? Look at you, already preparing to become an heir.

Me: Pretty much. I think I shall call our estate "Weed Abbey."

Lolly: Yes. That sounds fancy.

Me: And my name shall be Joshua Crawley.

Lolly: Which, ergo, would make me... Lolly Crawley.
*both look at each other and shake their heads*

Me: Doesn't work, does it?

Lolly: Noooot s'much.

Me: Well, great. There goes that. Now what am I going to do with my life?

Lolly: You're just gonna have to face the reality that you'll never have a manservant there to dress and undress you and button your cufflinks at any moment.

*both pause for a moment, reflecting*

Me: ...probably better that way, come to think of it?

Lolly: Yeah. I think you might be right.

Me: Note to selves: if ever we become heirs to a great fortune of the early 20th century, we will have maids attend to both of us.

Lolly: So let it be done!

*soda pop cans clink*

Instead of a vibrator, this year I got...

All right, there were three gifts that I couldn't not share from Christmastime.

Two are hilarious. One was really touching.

First, the touching. My sister-in-law Mickelle (whose blog you should definitely read) made this for me and Lolly:

The subtitle says: "A love story gone viral and how it changed minds and lives."

She called it The Sentimental Weed.

I have 15 minutes

to write this post.

That's the time limit I'm giving myself so that I write something. See, I'm doing that thing where I don't post in a while and I start putting pressure on myself to not post anything unless it's really good because it's been so long, and instead of that garbage I've said to myself: "Self. You have 15 minutes to write some thoughts down. And then you are going to press 'publish post' no matter what you have written down so that you can calm down and realize that publishing posts is not as big a deal as you are making it out to be, even if they're short and sweet. People that are true fans of The Weed would rather get short and sweet than nothing at all." (By "People that are true fans of The Weed" I refer to several of my blood relatives. And myself three months from now when I'm really bored one afternoon. Unless you are a true fan. Then I mean you, too. Glad we cleared that up.)

In closing, here are three random tidbits.

1. We took our Christmas tree down today. It was sad because my holiday was really great this year.

2. Instead of real resolutions, I'm doing this thing where I spend 15 minutes every day doing the things I need to do (there may or may not be a connection to this tidbit and the title of this post) and it actually has this really cool effect where I end up actually working on big projects in small, manageable chunks instead of putting them off endlessly. I'm kind of loving it.

3. Here. Here's one of my favorite songs at the moment.

See? All done, with time to spare. That wasn't so hard now, was it?

I think I'll post again tomorrow.
