Where I've Been aka I have some GOOD news

I haven't been able to get myself to write here because there was something kinda major going on in my life and even though it didn't take much of my time, it made my reflective abilities shrivel up like an offended sea anemone. Because that's what happens when there's a major email on its way: I sit down at the computer and my brain says "and now you will press refresh on your inbox times infinity until the email you are waiting for magically materializes" even though, deep down, I know it probably won't come for several more days.

"Maybe I should write a blog post... OVERRIDE! MUST REFRESH"

Heart stops when inbox says "1 new message."

It is spam.

...

ANYWAY.

Friends, I need to introduce you to someone. This is Byrd.

I unabashedly stole this photo from Byrd's Twitter feed. I hope he doesn't sue me.

He is my literary agent.

Being able to write the above five words is a dream come true you can hardly imagine.

For those who don't understand what that means, basically, acquiring a literary agent is one of the major hurdles to becoming a non-self-published author. I first queried an agent four years ago. He asked for a partial of the novel I'd written, couldn't open the attachment, and then I never heard from him again. It was kind of devastating. To have an agent now feels pretty awesome. If I were one to use the eff word, I totally would have used it between "pretty" and "awesome" right there. For emphasis.

I just made you cuss in your head, didn't I? Bwahahaha.

Yeah, I finally got the email yesterday after finishing a therapy session. It just... appeared in my inbox (as emails are wont to do) and said all these crazy things like "your book is an amazing love story" and "it is so well written" and "I would love to try to sell it for you."

And I was like WHAAAA??? Is this actually happening right now????

Because first of all, it's only halfway done.

And second of all WHAAAAA???? IS THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENING RIGHT NOW??????

But it is actually happening right now.

So, we're going for it. We are going to allow Byrd to take our precious book--the essence of our story, everything we are as a couple, a tale about the deepest sentiments of our lives--and try to find a home for it in the publishing world.

Pray for us. Pray that it finds the right home, with the right editor. Pray that it sells.

And then do a happy dance with me because this is one of the most awesome things that has ever happened to me!!!!!

All right. Enough dancing for me. I look really awkward, and plus I have some writing to do.

I'll catch you all later. Have an amazing weekend. I know I will.

PS, I'll post my answer to last week's FFAQ tomorrow. Thank you all for your amazing questions, and for being so awesome.

    3. You know what I love? I read some of the early posts of this blog and the subsequent discussions in comments. Since then, I have come back on and off. I know that Bjorge Queen was present from the beginning. Fair to say "devil's advocate"? And a healthy contributor to this very important conversation. LOVE that she wants your book in hard cover. It means there really is common ground to be found.

Good luck with the book, and Congrats!!

  24. Josh - This is so awesome! I am really excited for you and looking forward to the completion of your book.

I sure do recognize this great accomplishment and the things you must be feeling, since I have been working on a book for years. Although we have been telling 'some' of our story through our blog, there is still so much more to tell, (and a lot that we have already written that we have not yet shared on the blog), so I think that some day we might attempt to finish our book as well. (But maybe I'm fooling myself to think our story would sell, since currently we only have 2 official followers of our blog - lol) Oh well, we both feel confident that we are doing the right thing in writing the blog, and we trust in the guidance we receive from God, so there still could come a day when we feel inspired to finish our book.

I am so thrilled that the word is getting out about the reality of marriages like ours, and it is so important that our voices be heard, and our lives be more respected and hopefully better understood.

Good luck! and please know that we'll be first in line to buy your book. :D

  27. I'm in the process of querying agents right now for the 5th novel I've written (and I'm as-of-yet-still-unpublished)... So with a full understanding of where you are, and what it would mean to you, I want to say ...

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!

    That's pretty awesome!!!
(And go ahead and throw that extra word in between pretty and awesome!

  28. i am sick with jealousy that you have an agent. Just sayin.......... You rock!

  29. you can't sit down yet! I just started the happy dance! Get back on your feet... get... well anyway, I'm out of breath... congrats... :-)

  30. Ditto to all the posts about how awesome and well-deserved this is, happy dance, etc. I completely agree.

On the random, slightly unrelated side, ... well... am I the only one who thinks the agent is ... hot? :D

  31. For the record, I still said, "Effin'" in my head. :-) I still don't cuss in my head (and that realization was kinda funny to me).

Congrats, btw. That's pretty *effin'* awesome :)

  32. Congrats! Been following you since "The Post" and know you've worked hard and probably had numerous set backs. What a lesson for us all about doing hard things and just going for it. Me and the Queen will buy your book hardback as a thanks for all the free laughs.

  34. I'm so happy for you! Sorry I'm going to be a little selfish, and say I'm so happy for me too! I would totally love to read your book :) I'm so glad that you are able to fulfill this dream and I hope it continues on a good road for you. (By the way you totally made me swear in my head, props to you, I didn't even see it coming ;) )

  36. JOSH. I totally feel like YOU right nooow. I keep hitting *refresh* on your website, in the hopes that sometime, maybe soon! you'll post something new. Who knows? It could be soon. It COULD be there at the very next... *refresh*
Because let's be honest - I check your blog like, twice a day.
    UPDATES, please C:
    kthanksbye.

  37. Also, THAT"S AMAZING ABOUT YOUR PUBLISHING! Congratulations. That is incredible. Please let us all know when it's available for pre-order!

  38. Just want to 'ditto' what Emily said! I was thinking exactly the same thing! I'm sure you're crazy busy with all sorts of exciting things right now, but I'm clicking *refresh* on your blog at least a couple times a day too. :) Just so you know, we really won't hate you if you just post a couple quick lines saying that life has gone crazy and it might be a few days! We Weed addicts are just happy to see something new. ;) Especially when a post on Friday promised a post the next day...the wait is sending my ADD into overdrive with the urge to check and see if there's something new yet! haha!

Congratulations on the publishing deal! I almost never buy books, as I prefer to check them out from a library (and because I rarely have time to read anymore, being a mother of 2 toddler boys), but I might just have to make an exception for this one. I'm really excited for you!!

  39. So awesome!!! OS happy for you!! Can't wait to buy it!

  40. I work for a publisher in Springville called Cedar Fort. I'd love it if we could do your book. I do the catalogs, so I don't have any say in it, but it sounds like something we would publish. Also, our cover designer for that genre is fantastic, so you'd get a really good-looking book too. :) adecker@cedarfort.com
